Z is for Zeerover. The Dutch term for pirates! And we made it to Z!!
Aw it’s over- but going out with a HOLLAND BANG!
Ahoy all! Ok now usually I don’t post real work/life stuff here on ye old SJ tumblr- BUT since this has to do with comic con and makes me super proud I wanted to share. I got to design the 90s Nick tote bag for SDCC which was awesome. We went through a bunch of different designs and ideas until at the 11th hour when we had to get something to the printers I was like ‘you know what would be cool? Just a big ass Reptar bag’ and that’s what we did! So if you’re at SDCC look out so you can score one! I think they’re giving them out Fri-Sun

Aw man! You know if there is one thing I might do over it would be to start out the first chapter of Ship Jumper with a little more world building. I hope to remedy some of this in Vol 5- but I do take for granted that SJ basically follows real world Napoleonic Wars time frame rules. So for your actually question- no. I had come up with the basic characters and their look right out of college but never did anything with them. Then a few years back I had been reading a bunch of Horatio Hornblower books and knew I wanted to get my shiz together and make an ‘Age of Sail’ era comic that was actually homoerotic instead of just subtext. So that mid-1700’s look was what I really wanted to do, but I didn’t want to box myself in with real history and needed to have the antlers/ horns as rank insignia as that was the main part of the original designs. BUT I DO already have the idea for my next comic! (whenever that happens LOL) It’s super secret but in general it’s about time travel and lady friendship~
OBVS you guys know I love SJ questions so feel free! But I’m also gonna take this in another direction and post some character questions to delve deeper into Piper’s personality!
Where do you live? Describe it: Depending on my rank at the time, either a hammock in the lowers decks with the other seamen or, more recently on the Provoque, a shared small cabin with other Lieutenants on the ship, in order of seniority. (On a ship the size of the Provoque, the 1st and 2nd Lieutenant would split a larger cabin, then the junior lieutenants would share an adjacent cabin. So Piper roomed with the 3rd and 4th Lt as he was the 5th.)
What is your most prized possession? Why do you value it so much? My trunk (sailors sea chest) I suppose, it holds everything I own in the world, and in that… my newspaper clippings about Rhinston *blush*
What one word best describes you? Cheerful
When’s the last time you saw any member of your family? Before I went off to join the navy, so over 12 years ago.
